In a series of brief vignettes, Leslie documents a diverse range of individuals and community groups connected to the River Clyde.
Five of those works are presented here, interspersed with three films drawn from the National Library of Scotland Moving Image Archive, each charting a different era of development on the river as it passes through Glasgow. From the 1930s facade of a boom town, to the first attempts to envisage a post-industrial riverfront in the early 1970s, and the tension between culture and capital of the 2000s, the river has been a site of promise, conflict and stagnation for successive generations. The question of who owns the Clyde becomes ever more urgent. By addressing current challenges and failures, Clyde Reflections aims to spark a conversation about transforming the river into a more inclusive and sustainable resource for all Glaswegians.
Following the screening, Chris Leslie, Jude Barber and Louise Welsh will be in conversation with writer and artist Joey Simons.
Thanks to National Library of Scotland.
