Dr Stephen Breslin – Chief Executive, Glasgow Science Centre (Host)
Professor Pauline Mackay – Professor of Robert Burns Studies and Cultural Heritage; Co-Director, Realities & Immersion Glasgow, University of Glasgow (Chair)
Professor Pauline Mackay is Co-Director of Realities & Immersion Glasgow (RIG), the University of Glasgow’s centre for immersive research, teaching and innovation. A Professor of Cultural Heritage and Scottish Literature, she operates at the intersection of storytelling, 3D content and XR technologies — blending creative practice with advanced digital capability.
Pauline sits at the heart of the city’s growing immersive ecosystem. As Co-Investigator on the £6.2m Innovate UK Museums in the Metaverse project and a strategic leader within Glasgow’s XR infrastructure, she works across academia, industry and cultural partners to develop platforms and facilities positioning the city as a leading UK hub for immersive and 3D production. Her collaboration with Edify produced Burns Beyond Reality, the first-ever Robert Burns VR experience — a flagship example of heritage reimagined through virtual worlds.
Recognised with the English Association Fellows Award for her use of XR and named in the Saltire Society’s “40 under 40” for Scotland’s creative industries, Pauline plays a key role in shaping Glasgow’s ambition to become a powerhouse in immersive innovation.
Pauline McCloy-Turtle - Creative Director of SUUM Studio
Pauline McCloy-Turtle is Creative Director and co-founder of SUUM Studio, a Glasgow-based immersive design and real-time 3D studio specialising in spatial storytelling, interactive environments and virtual production. Her work explores how digital worlds and physical spaces can converge to create new forms of cultural experience.
With over 20 years’ experience across exhibition design, motion graphics, VFX and environmental storytelling, Pauline leads cross-disciplinary creative projects from concept through to delivery. Her background includes work with underground artists, independent labels, national cultural institutions and international media brands.
Under her leadership, SUUM has been a three-time Scottish Design Awards finalist, secured UKRI Creative Catalyst funding in 2024, and joined the inaugural CoSTAR Network Ideate Residency, positioning the studio within the UK’s emerging creative technology ecosystem.
Her current work focuses on immersive sector research, strategic consultancy, IP development and commercial production. Working at the intersection of culture, design and interactive technology, Pauline brings a hands-on industry perspective on collaborative production, real-time workflows and talent development, and how studios like SUUM are contributing to Glasgow’s growing reputation as a hub for immersive and 3D content creation.
Professor Neil McDonnell - Professor of Philosophy and XR Technology, University of Glasgow
Professor Neil McDonnell is Professor of Philosophy and XR Technology at the University of Glasgow and Co-Director of Realities & Immersion Glasgow (RIG), the University’s centre for immersive research and innovation. His work explores how virtual, augmented and mixed reality reshape how we learn, interact and experience culture — and what it means for digital worlds to feel real, trusted and meaningful.
He leads the UKRI-funded Museums in the Metaverse project, developing large-scale immersive platforms that enable museums and cultural organisations to create interactive virtual environments and exhibitions. As Chair of the ARC-XR Operations Board at the University’s Advanced Research Centre, he oversees strategy and use of Glasgow’s flagship XR infrastructure and immersive production facilities.
Through his leadership across research, infrastructure and national funding programmes, Neil plays a central role in advancing Glasgow’s immersive ecosystem — helping position the city as a leading UK hub for XR, virtual production and 3D content innovation.
Douglas Liddle - Curriculum Head of Games and 3D Computer Animation, City of Glasgow College
Douglas Liddle is Curriculum Head for Games and 3D Computer Animation at City of Glasgow College, leading programmes at the heart of Glasgow’s further education 3D and XR talent pipeline. He oversees courses in 3D modelling, games development and animation, ensuring students develop industry-ready skills in real-time engines, 3D asset creation and interactive storytelling.
Under his leadership, the College’s HND Computer Games Development course has been recognised as an “Outstanding Course”, reflecting strong progression and alignment with industry demand. Douglas works closely with studios, universities and creative tech employers to ensure curriculum design keeps pace with evolving workflows in games, immersive production and virtual environments.
Actively involved in city-wide collaboration around XR and 3D, Douglas contributes to major funding bids and joint initiatives linking further education, higher education and industry. His work positions City of Glasgow College as a key gateway into Glasgow’s growing immersive and 3D content ecosystem — widening access while building the next generation of creative technologists.
