Christmas has arrived in Glasgow city centre, as Buchanan Galleries teams up with its charity partner, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, to bring festive cheer and goodwill to the community.
Throughout December, Buchanan Galleries and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity are hosting a range of activities and initiatives in the shopping centre to help raise vital funds and provide essential support for children undergoing treatment in hospital and their families, whilst creating memorable festive experiences for guests.
The centre has introduced a Santa’s Grotto in collaboration with the charity. The Grotto, which is now open, offers families and children the chance to meet Santa Claus and his merry elves, share their festive wishes, capture a memorable photo, and receive a treat from Santa. Admission to the Grotto is free, with an optional opportunity to contribute to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
Adding to the festive cheer, the charity’s popular pop-up shop has returned, located in front of the Buchanan Galleries flower wall outside John Lewis & Partners. Visitors can browse a selection of unique Christmas cards and small gifts, whilst listening to the sound of local school choirs, hospital choir groups, and community ensembles, singing all the Christmas classics.
From Friday 13th December to Tuesday 24th December, shoppers can also take advantage of the charity’s own gift-wrapping service. For a suggested donation of £3, friendly volunteers will ensure presents are wrapped to perfection, saving time during the busy festive season.
The proceeds raised by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity throughout the festive period will support the funding of life-saving treatment, ensuring that every baby, child and young person treated at Scotland's largest children's hospital receives the extra special care they deserve.
William McGowan, Head of Partnerships & Business Development at Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “Once again, the Buchanan Galleries team have pulled out all the stops to bring the magic of Christmas to the centre whilst raising vital funds for children in hospital. Thanks to the exceptional generosity of visitors to the centre and with the help of hundreds of volunteers, we can ensure that our young patients and their families receive world-class care at the children’s hospital in Glasgow.”
Kathy Murdoch, Centre Director at Buchanan Galleries, added: “Christmas is a time to be spent with loved ones, but through our work with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, we are reminded of those children who are undergoing treatment in hospital and may miss out on the festivities.
“As a shopping centre in the heart of Glasgow, we are immensely proud to be able to offer families and guests memorable experiences, such as our Santa’s Grotto, all whilst supporting such an important cause. We hope our guests will join us and embrace the season of giving this year and help make a difference for children and their families in Glasgow.”
Santa’s Grotto is open every weekend until Sunday 22nd December, as well as Monday 23rd December and Tuesday 24th December, giving every child in Glasgow the chance to share their last-minute Christmas wishes.
The Grotto’s opening hours are 11am - 5pm, except for Christmas Eve (December 24th) when the Grotto will be open from 10am - 1pm.
Offering more than 80 shops, Buchanan Galleries is the perfect destination to tick off the Christmas shopping list, including family favourites such as John Lewis & Partners, LEGO and Build-a-Bear Workshop. The centre has recently welcomed an array of brands to the centre including, Restock3d, a local sports and leisurewear brand founded by Finlay Gordon, Glasgow-based beauty brand, VIEVE by Jamie Genevieve, as well as a new beauty salon, Beauty Boutique, offering a range of treatments including hair and nail services.
