Organised in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions, the Job Fair has become a key date for job seekers in the local area, providing opportunities to explore a wide range of vacancies available at Silverburn, and to speak directly with employers to learn more about the available roles.
This year’s fair will feature a mix of well-known retailers, including H beauty, Black Sheep Coffee, Next and Wagamama, among others, who will provide valuable insight into the roles available and what they are looking for in candidates.
With over 100 positions on offer ranging from customer service and hospitality to management roles, there are opportunities at all levels, whether starting a new career or building on existing skills.
The range of vacancies include part-time and full-time positions, permanent roles and seasonal Christmas contracts. Many of the jobs offer flexible hours, making them ideal for students, parents or those looking to return to work.
Attendees can meet employers face-to-face, ask questions, and share their CVs. For many, the event is more than an opportunity to apply for a job - it also offers advice, networking opportunities, and a firsthand look into a career in retail.
When Glasgow University student Charley Urquhart, 19, attended Silverburn’s Job Fair three years ago she didn’t realise it would set her on a career path that is still going today. Charley, from Barrhead, first worked a temporary Christmas role at Noah Home & Gifts, a family-run kiosk selling unique and ethical gifts, before returning in the August, where she now works part-time.
Charley said: “I heard about the Job Fair through my friends, and we all went together, which made the whole process more comfortable and enjoyable.
“On the day I applied for lots of jobs and received several offers, which meant I could choose the role that suited me best. There was a really good selection of positions, with different hours, roles and job types, which made it easy to find something that fitted around my studies.
“The Job Fair is a brilliant chance to apply for lots of jobs at once and gain valuable networking experience. I was introduced to the team at Noah Home & Gifts at the Job Fair and secured a position. My interview process was really relaxed, just a sit-down conversation and a follow-up call once I had accepted the role.
“What I enjoy most about retail is the people you meet. Customers come in for gifts for all occasions and it’s lovely to be able to have a nice chat with them. I also like the convenience of working at Silverburn, it’s easy to get to from home or university, and I love being able to shop around the other stores before or after shifts. But the real highlight of my role at Noah Home & Gifts has been the wonderful people I work with; I have made memories and friendships to last a lifetime.”
David Pierotti, General Manager of Silverburn, said: “Our annual Job Fair at Silverburn gives people the chance to open doors to many different experiences. We are ready to welcome anyone looking to start their career or take a new path. As the busy Christmas season approaches, this event is an excellent opportunity to connect our guests with the amazing retailers Silverburn has to offer.”
The event will be held in the main atrium from 10 am – 5 pm on Friday, 10 October. Find out more about the event here: www.shopsilverburn.com
