This Christmas, Glaswegians can give the gift of hope to hungry children – simply by shopping for festive gifts at a much-loved Christmas market.
Mary’s Meals’ annual Christmas market returns at The Social Hub on Saturday, 15 and Sunday, 16 November, with proceeds from the event going towards nutritious school meals for hungry children living in some of the world’s poorest communities. These meals attract children into the classroom where they can gain an education that can be their ladder out of poverty.
In September, the Scotland based charity announced it is reaching an incredible three million children every school day across sixteen countries – including Ethiopia, Haiti and Zimbabwe.
The weekend market will include a fantastic selection of festive stalls selling jewellery, art, homeware, cards, crafts, children's books, foodie gifts and more, run by talented Mary’s Meals volunteers and popular small businesses from Glasgow and across Scotland. Tickets for the free event can be secured via the Mary's Meals website: www.marysmeals.org.uk.
Sarah Mallon, Mary’s Meals Supporter Engagement Officer for West Scotland, says: “There’s always such a great atmosphere at the market to get everyone in the festive spirit. But what makes it truly special is knowing that buying a Christmas gift for a loved one can help children who, without Mary’s Meals, may have to work or beg for food. It’s a beautiful way to share love and hope this Christmas. With plenty of different stalls, you’ll find the perfect Christmas gifts for friends and family alike, all while helping us provide hungry children with food, education and hope.
“It costs only £19.15 to feed a child with Mary’s Meals for an entire school year or just 10p a meal. This means that even a small gift for a loved one will have a big impact. Together this festive season, we can keep our promise to the three million children who eat our meals every school day – and turn hunger into hope for the children still waiting for our life-changing meals.”
Give hope this Christmas – and with Double the Love, your donation can go twice as far! From 10 November, all donations made to Mary’s Meals will be doubled by a group of generous supporters, up to £1.1 million. Together, through Double The Love, we can transform the lives of many more desperately hungry children waiting for Mary’s Meals.
