Eight of those entries also placed in the top five of their respective categories.
Held in Birmingham, the Ice Cream Alliance’s long-standing industry awards were relaunched this year as the Golden Scoop Awards. Under the Alliance’s rigorous scoring system, products must achieve at least 95% of the highest score in their category to receive a star rating. A 5-Star rating is only awarded to entries demonstrating “exceptional ice cream”, showcasing perfect harmony of flavour, texture and appearance.
Entries were judged across a range of flavour and innovation categories, with each product assessed against others in its class.
As the very first Golden Scoop Awards, this year’s entrants were not only competing for recognition but helping to set the benchmark for ice cream excellence in the years to come.
This year’s results mean every ice cream submitted by Equi’s achieved 5-Star status, underlining the company’s commitment to craftsmanship across both traditional and plant-based recipes.
This year’s 5-Star flavour and their relative classes are:
• Belgian Chocolate – Best Chocolate Class (2nd place)
• Vegan Pistachio with Sea Salt – Innovative Class (2nd place)
• White Chocolate, Pomegranate & Pistachio – Best Open Flavour Class (2nd place)
• Strawberry Ripple – Best Strawberry Class (3rd place)
• Sourdough and Salted Butter Caramel Ripple – Innovation Class (4th place)
• Hot Heather Honey and Honey & Chilli ripple - Open Flavour Class (4th place)
• Blackcurrant & Cassis Sorbet - Open Sorbet Class (4th class)
• Pistachio – Pistachio Class (5th place)
• Madagascan Vanilla – Best Vanilla Class
• Custard Trifle - Open Flavour Class
• Hazelnut Brittle - Open Flavour Class
• Salted Butter Caramel Popcorn - Open Flavour Class
David Equi, CEO of Equi’s Ice Cream, said: “To see every flavour we entered achieve a 5-star rating at the new Golden Scoop awards is an incredible honour. A 5-Star award represents ice cream performing at 95% or more of the top score in its class, so to do that across all twelve entries and across different flavour categories is testament to the passion and precision our team brings to every batch.
“We are especially proud that our Vegan Pistachio with sea salt, made using Brose Scottish oat milk, stood shoulder to shoulder with our dairy ranges. It reflects how seriously we take flavour, texture and locally sourced ingredients across every recipe we develop.”
Catherine McNeil, Director of Operations at the Ice Cream Alliance, said: “The Golden Scoop Awards represent the highest standards of judging in our industry and achieving a 5-Star rating is a significant accomplishment. With entries needing to reach at least 95% of the top score in their class, these awards recognise products that truly excel in flavour, texture and overall quality. As the inaugural year of the Golden Scoop Awards, results like this help set the benchmark for ice cream excellence across the UK, and Equi’s success across multiple categories is a fantastic example of that standard in action.”
Equi’s continues to build on more than a century of family expertise, combining traditional Italian-Scottish heritage with modern production at its solar-powered dairy in Rutherglen. The twelve 5-Star wins further cement the brand’s reputation as one of the UK’s most decorated ice cream makers, recognised consistently for both innovation and flavour excellence.
The awards success follows a period of sustained growth for the Glasgow-based company, as it continues to expand its footprint across retail, foodservice and major venue partnerships.
