The new venue will open following a major refurbishment that includes installing a new bar and a first-floor bistro that will serve a variety of food throughout the day.
While the main aim is to provide Clarkston with a much-needed local bar and live music venue, it will also serve good quality food, cooked from scratch with fresh ingredients
The new owners are the team behind Loks, the bar bistro in Newlands that has successfully combined a high-quality restaurant and a welcoming, popular bar with a thriving function suite that hosts regular cabaret and disco nights as well as private parties and functions.
The site, at Clarkston Toll, was home to a branch of coffee chain Beanscene for several years and has undergone several incarnations since it closed in 2014.
Phillip Reilly, who owns and manages Loks with his wife, Grace, said they decided to open a bar bistro following extensive research in the local area.
He said: “Clarkston is a hub for several big communities, including Netherlee, Stamperland, Busby and a big chunk of Giffnock, as well as the town itself and it’s crying out for a good local pub.
“Time after time we were told by local people that they want somewhere on their doorstep, that has a friendly, community atmosphere, where they can pop in for a drink and a good snack or meal, any time of the day.
“They also want somewhere that’s a draw at week-ends, where they can listen to a bit of live music without having to venture into the city.”
The owners are currently in the process of lodging applications for a license and for planning permission and work on the refurbishment is dues to start in the coming months.
“The bar will sell great quality wines, craft beers, gins as well as boozy milkshakes, cocktails and coffees. The food will be typical bistro style with items ranging from full Scottish breakfast, sandwiches and bar nibbles to a selection of restaurant favorites like fish n chips, pies and burgers. This should give the locals a new place to go for a bite to eat or a drink anytime of the day and relax in style!
Mr Reilly said he hoped that the new venue will be open by Mid-Summer pending planning approval, and shall keep residents updated with progress as we go.
“Nothing like this has been done before in Clarkston. It’s something new and exciting and we’re confident it’s what the locals (including ourselves) have been looking for.”
