Throughout May, the BHF is encouraging customers to take up its Reuse Revolution challenge, supporting the planet and the charity’s lifesaving research by shopping preloved and donating items no longer needed.
The Union Street store has been given a mini-makeover by staff to showcase its new Capsule Collections. With specially arranged sections such as Love the Label, Nostalgia and Wellness, customers will find everything from designer summer staples, to vintage clothes and accessories and leisure wear.
The BHF’s Reuse Revolution hopes to raise awareness of the incredible benefits of shopping preloved, preventing good quality items from going to landfill and saving money while also funding the charity’s vital research into heart and circulatory diseases.
Union Street Manager, Gerry Gray, said: “We’re so looking forward to seeing and hearing what our customers make of the changes we have made instore and hopefully encouraging some new supporters in too! There are some real hidden gems to be found, unique pieces that can bring your wardrobe to life. Every item bought or donated to the BHF helps raise money to power lifesaving science to save and improve more lives. Across Scotland around 700,000 people are living with heart and circulatory diseases. Your purchase or donation can help us, help them.”
Shopping second hand and donating unwanted items to charity are great ways of creating a sustainable, budget-friendly circular economy.
Staff are also keen to welcome donations, in particular good quality summer clothing, shoes and accessories as well as homewares & books. Donations can be made in store, via post, or for larger items, through the BHF’s free collection service.
Cheryl Hughes, Area Manager, at BHF Scotland, said: “At a time when we are all tightening our belts but still care about the planet and want to support charities close to us, Reuse Revolution is a great way to combine all three. So please consider visiting your BHF Scotland shop before buying new.”
In a year, the BHF saves around 71,000 tonnes of goods going to waste and through the reuse and recycling of donated items, helps prevent 135,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions being released into the atmosphere. The charity will also sell over half a million pieces of living room furniture and 14,000 tonnes of preloved clothes from its stores.
