The competition, saw over 800 students participating across 15+ different sporting disciplines including badminton, hockey and netball in a day of intense competition before coming to a conclusion at Scotstoun Sports Campus.
Points were allocated to the winner of individual sports events in order to decide the victorious university.
Mario Killmann, Sports President Glasgow University Sports Association, said: “Congratulations to Strathclyde University for winning the Glasgow Taxis Cup! This year, yet again, showed how highly contested the competition is. Thank you very much to everyone involved in organising the fantastic event and well done to all the incredible athletes taking part. We will see you again next year to bring the trophy back to where it belongs - Glasgow!”
Ajala Solomen, Vice President The Glasgow School for Business and Society, Glasgow Caledonian University said: “Congratulations to Strathclyde University, we went all the way, and I am particularly happy seeing we gave our very best even though it was not enough to bring back the cup. Let’s not get discouraged, together we will bounce back and succeed.”
Molly McHugh, Vice President Sport and Wellbeing, Strathclyde University Sports Union said: “It’s fantastic to see the cup return to where it belongs at Strathclyde! Huge congratulations to everyone involved, it’s amazing to see so many students compete across all the different sports. Well done to all the Strathclyde teams for producing great results and getting the win. Glasgow Taxi’s Cup is always a brilliant day and to see Strathclyde win for the first time in a few years is so special. Lifting the cup has been a highlight of my time at Strathclyde and I’m proud of all the Strathletes who fought to bring the cup home! Glasgow is maroon once again!”
The event, now in its 21st year, has been supported by Glasgow Taxis Ltd. since 2011.
