Celebrating British Science Week in Glasgow

To celebrate British Science Week, Glasgow Science Centre will deliver a jam-packed programme of activities, experiments and events for public visitors and school children this week.

From Thursday 13th March to Sunday 16th March, visitors of all ages are invited to explore the wonders of science through a variety of interactive events and demonstrations. More than 1200 school pupils will be visiting the Science Centre across Thursday and Friday this week, while public visitors are inspired to join in activities over the weekend.

Families and science enthusiasts will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of pop-up demonstrations and hands-on-experiments and meet scientists, engineers and mathematicians from Scotland’s STEM industries across all three floors of the Science Centre, designed to inspire curiosity, and allowing the public to interact with and learn about cutting-edge research and developments within the STEM community.

Ambassadors and experts from The Weir Group, Intuition of Civil Engineers, Scottish Association for Marine Science, Living Lab, National Physical Laboratory, Mathworks, DRAX, the University of Glasgow and the Marine Conservation Society shall visit the Science Centre to share their work through a range of fun, practical and accessible activities, including a cyber security whack-a-mole game, infinite jigsaw puzzles and deep-sea robots.

Adults will also get the chance to celebrate British Science Week this Friday, at a unique adult-only Science Lates ‘Forces of Change’ event, for a night of discovery, drinks, and hands-on fun without the kids.

British Science Week is a nation-wide ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths that will take place between 7th and 16th of March this year.

Commenting, Glasgow Science Centre’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Stephen Breslin said: “British Science Week is one of our highlights of the year, and we’re delighted to welcome visitors and experts to Glasgow Science Centre for four jam-packed days of science engagement and learning.

“We share our love of science and technology all year round, but it’s fantastic to be able to organise events like these that can bring the public and industry professional together under the one roof to share ideas and knowledge in a way that makes STEM learning accessible for all.”
