With less than a month to go until Hoolie in the Hydro, every pupil in Gaelic Medium Education in the city is being offered the chance to attend the landmark celebration of Scottish culture on Saturday 13th December, for just 50p.
The exclusive GlasGael 850 Ticket is open to students across Glasgow Gaelic Secondary School, Glasgow Gaelic Primary School, Calton Gaelic Primary School, Glendale Gaelic Primary School and Govan Gaelic Primary School.
The opportunity is part of Glasgow’s 850th anniversary celebrations – a yearlong programme showcasing the people, culture and creativity that make Glasgow a unique place to live, work and visit.
As the year comes to a close, this collaboration aims to give as many youngsters as possible the chance to see Gaelic language and music on one of the city’s biggest and most iconic stages.
Hosted by Martin Compston and Julie Fowlis, Hoolie in the Hydro will welcome some of Scotland’s finest proponents of contemporary Gaelic music including Mànran and Trail West.
This year’s edition, Hoolie in the Hydro: The Big Yin, is set to close with a special finale honouring legendary comedian, musician and actor Sir Billy Connolly.
Hoolie in the Hydro organiser, broadcaster and musician Gary Innes said: “Hoolie in the Hydro is about showcasing Scotland’s own music and language on a scale which was not imaginable 20 years ago, and we want to reach as many people as possible. The next generation are central to ensuring traditional music continues to thrive and this is a fantastic opportunity to engage young Gaelic speakers and learners. I’m incredibly passionate about young people gaining access to the arts, so it’s a proud moment to announce this partnership and ensure we are making our event affordable for thousands.”
Councillor Christina Cannon, City Convener for Education & Early Years said: “This is a cunique and fun opportunity for our GME children and young people and their families to celebrate Glasgow 850 with a musical twist. This high energy event which showcases Scotland music and language will be the perfect event for pupils to enjoy and learn at the same time.”
