28 November 2025 – Loganair, the UK’s leading regional airline, has launched a new festive competition to name the puffin starring in its emotional Christmas advert - and one lucky winner will win a family trip to Shetland to meet the real thing.
The adorable puffin has already stolen the show in The Nest, Loganair’s Christmas film, which premiered this month and has quickly captured hearts across the country.
It follows a puffin family separated by distance as they travel from Cornwall and London to snowy Edinburgh and finally to the dramatic cliffs of Shetland, where they reunite in their cosy coastal nest. The film, rooted in Loganair’s proud Scottish heritage, has struck a chord with viewers thanks to its powerful message, “Together is the greatest gift.”
Now that the puffin has become an unexpected festive star, Loganair is inviting families, animal lovers, and anyone inspired to give the character its official name.
From now until 8 December, people can visit Loganair’s website and submit their favourite name, along with a short explanation of why they think it best represents the character. The winning entry, to be revealed in the new year, will earn an unforgettable family getaway for four to Shetland. Loganair’s newly named feathered character will feature in their onboard children’s offering, landing in January 2026.
The prize, created in collaboration with Promote Shetland, includes return flights for a family of 4, a two-night stay at Busta House Hotel, car hire, and tickets to Sumburgh Head Lighthouse Visitor Centre, one of the best places in the UK to see puffins up close. The trip will take place between April and September 2026, when the famous seabirds return to the islands.
Lyn MacDonald, director of marketing, communications and product at Loganair, said: “The response to The Nest has delivered a little bit of early festive magic, and in the spirit of continuing the feel-good factor, we wanted to celebrate further and invite people to get creative and help name this new adorable character.
“Puffins are a much-loved part of Scotland’s natural heritage, and this competition gives families the chance to experience their magic up close in Shetland next year. We can’t wait to hear the creative names people come up with.”
Customers looking to make their own way home for the festive season can book from travel agents or directly at Loganair’s website.
Earlier this year, Loganair was ranked second in the Which? annual customer survey of short-haul airlines, achieving a 72% score, receiving five stars for customer service and four stars for booking, boarding, and cleanliness.
Additionally, the airline was named the most punctual for UK arrivals and departures in Q2 2025 by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, with 86% of its flights arriving and departing on time.
Customers flying with Loganair benefit from a 21kg luggage allowance as standard and convenient connections to the wider UK through the airline’s growing network and partner carriers.
Entries are currently open and close on 8 December. To take part or view T&Cs, visit the Loganair website and submit your suggestion here: The Nest | Christmas Campaign 2025 | Loganair
