'Comics Uncovered: From Glasgow to Gotham' opens at Mount Stuart on Saturday 20th May. Delve into the fascinating history of comic books in the Bute Collection, tracing how this multi-modal form of storytelling developed over time.
This exhibition uncovers the evolution of comics, from the anarchic satirists of the Georgian era to mavericks of modern comics. A range of artists, writers, and publishers from the UK to Europe, and the USA will be shown in Mount Stuart’s exhibition space, including work by James Gillray, Thomas Rowlandson, Jonathan Swift, Punch, Charles Dickens, George Belcher, DC Thomson, DC Comics, Marvel and so much more.
From caricatures and original drawings to archival material, toys, and books: a fascinating array of material collected by the Bute Family over the course of several generations will be on display for our visitors. Explore the extraordinary history of comics through the Bute Collection at Mount Stuart this summer.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
