High Rise Presents MODERNISTIC, supported by rap artist P Caso, as well as Singer and Musician Ringu. Join us on the 5th of August at The Old Hairdressers, showcasing the emerging and vibrant colours of Glasgow’s music scene and beyond.
High Rise is an inclusive collective of musicians who work towards representing the best of Scotland’s music and sub-culture, so please join us for our first event as we present to you, MODERNISTIC.
MODERNISTIC is all about expression, unity and breaking down what defines genres.
Inspiring collaboration across sound while spinning material into a web of creativity, where every show is a different and captivating experience.
Led by Ewan Johnston, the band plays original music composed by himself which focuses on melody, joy, wonder and the pain of human experience, with arrangements of songs rooted deep in the jazz tradition, hip-hop and RnB.
The band has a flowing sound that grows organically, grounded but not tied to the groove, making use of rap and spoken word by lyricist and poet ACE V!S!ON. Singing is by powerhouse Gaia Jeannot, a mellifluous Simon Herberholz is on saxophone, complimented by the electrifying Norman Villeroux on bass, interwoven with the beat kept by the rhythmic Roan Anderson on drums and lastly the catalyst of it all, Ewan Johnston on keys.
Their music and performance is expressive and unifying, bringing together audiences across the city with hip hop, jazz and soul, ensnaring the enthusiasm of the city's nightlife, as well as attracting attention from further afield, recently performing at the Paisley Food and Drink festival.
MODERNISTIC have made waves in the Glasgow music scene, and are now taking steps to cement their reputation with their style of collective improvisation, thought-provoking lyrics and a fierce passion for expression.
The 5th of August will also have support from Ringu and P Caso.
Ringu is an Edinburgh-based musician and singer who combines vintage techniques of soul and jazz with lofi drums and sonic synths. However, her more recent work, such as ‘Into the Stars’ is a contrast in tempo with a more drum and bass-inspired sound, accompanied by her mellow vocals and deep lyrics, Ringu is not one to miss bringing a sense of soul and passion to her sets when she performs.
P Caso is an emerging rap artist who will also be supporting MODERNISTIC for our first event. P Caso will be performing his recent project ‘Mise En Scene’, along with some new pieces produced by up-coming producer talent, Kalum, both being part of the High Rise collective they are set to make waves with their up-coming project yet to be officially announced.
Be sure not to miss MODERNISTIC headlining at The Old Hairdressers supported by P Caso and Ringu on the 5th of August, helping carry on the summer warmth.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
