When explorer Harry St John Philby passed away in Beirut in 1960, his son Kim scratched on his grave, “the greatest of Arabian explorers.” Mark Evans shares the story of Philby’s pioneering 1917 journey across Arabia, and his own recent Heart of Arabia expedition with Philby’s Saudi Arabian granddaughter, retracing Philby’s footsteps from east to west across Arabia, on foot, by camel and by 4x4. Mark has lived in the Middle East for 25 years, and was awarded The Medal of Honour by His Majesty The Sultan of Oman for his work using outdoor learning to develop the youth of Oman.
