The programme will include works by the Bach family, Francis Poulenc and contemporary composer Marc Mellits.
Richard Scholfield is an award-winning Scottish saxophonist praised for his “silken” sound (The Scotsman) and thoughtful programming. Passionate about chamber music, he performs regularly in his Tunnell Trust award-winning duo with pianist Iain Clarke, as well as taking part in other chamber projects such as the newly established trio Triskelion (with clarinettist Cathal Killeen and accordionist Valerie Barr), Campus Trio (Live Music Now Scotland artists), and performances in collaboration with the Resol String Quartet. Richard is a 2020 City Music Foundation Artist.
Richard earned first prize in the 2023 Croydon Concerto Competition, as well as gaining second prize in the 2022 Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition at Mayfield Festival. He has performed concerti with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra and the Kelvin Ensemble. Richard has also played with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra of Scottish Opera and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland.
Cathal Killeen enjoys a varied career in Ireland and the UK. He has been offered trials for positions with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and has been invited to play as Guest Principal Clarinet of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Cathal’s playing can be heard on BBC Radio 3 and RTÉ Lyric FM, and he performs in Triskelion and Buccleuch Duo, who have featured at the West Wicklow Festival in Ireland, Bothwell recital series in Scotland, Tunbridge Wells International Music Festival and Madrid a Tempo.
Cathal has a passion for commissioning works from composers with underrepresented backgrounds, and has premiered works for bass clarinet by Ivette Herryman Rodriguez and Aidan Teplitzky. Cathal is a D’addario Artist, and performs on the Reserve Classic line of reeds. He is a recipient of the Dunbar Gerber award for chamber music and Jury Prize at the Irish Freemason’s Young Musician of the Year.
