This offers young people the chance to develop their hand-building skills, learning new techniques to create functional sculptural art! The class will also feature two - three weeks of wheel throwing where we can work towards creating forms on the wheel. Everyone will be shown how to work with clay slips, underglazes and glaze. Glazes are included in the price
Week 1 slab building
○ Understand the technique of creating a clay slabs for
building 3D objects and containers
○ Participants will be using the slab of clay they have rolled out to
create a vessel or tiles design
○ They will use scoring and slipping to join pieces of clay together
Week 2 slab building techniques - sculpture/large ceramic vessel
○ participants will use their slab building technique to create a
sculpture/large ceramic vessel.
○ Participants will also add texture and detail to their creations
Week 3-4 wheel throwing
○ Participants will be shown how to use the wheel
○ Participants will create 2-3 pieces use the techniques they have
learned
○ Participants will work collaboratively with other people in the
class. This will enable shared understanding and techniques.
Week 5 Coloured Slips/ Pinch pots
○ Work into pots that have dried from last week: add a variety of
coloured sips to decorate pieces
○ Make pinch pots to test designs on.
Week 6 decorating
○ Participants will finish and decorate their pieces with coloured
underglaze and slips
○ Pisces will be prepared for final firing
