Isobel Wylie Hutchison, a true trailblazer, was an explorer, botanist, writer, and artist - said to be the first Scottish woman to ever set foot on Greenland.
This event presents a selection of Hutchison’s films taken during her travels to remote regions of the world, including Greenland and Alaska, between 1927 and 1935.
The scenes she captured document her studies into indigenous plant life in the places she visited, but also the lives and daily activities of the people she met.
Hutchison's adventurous life and travels come to life through these early moving images, which range from beautiful landscapes to kayaking, dancing, and details of domestic life.
This special programme offers the chance to experience her films on the big screen, with live piano accompaniment and extracts of her written works.
Music for this event has been selected and will be performed by Esther Hamilton-Keith.
Free to attend but please book a space via Eventbrite. If you have any questions, please contact us at movingimage@nls.uk.
