_ and friends is an event and artist development initiative with a different curator and host every time. We want to transform the way new work in Scotland gets made, without waiting for funding or people to say yes. No gatekeepers, no stressful funding applications. Just new work, audiences, and a platform where everyone is equal.
New plays from Meghan Tyler and Lauren Mitchell
Original new performance from Bailey Newsome, Peter McCormick and Raymond Wilson
Hosted by Catriona MacLeod
Talented performer, wordsmith and environmental educator Raymond Wilson debuts 'I'm on Fire' - a monologue in poetic prose, exploring male sexuality and body image during the time of climate-crisis, linking the passion of love and art, with the burning of our planet.
Cormac in Peter McCormick’s ‘Beyond Krapp’ is trapped in Purgatory following his untimely death. He is haunted by voice messages that he exchanged with friends, flames, and the one who mattered most. But when she fails to arrive at his funeral, Cormac wonders if he achieved anything of worth in his short time on earth.
A former Class Clown who sacrificed his future for the entertainment of others now works a horrendous 9-5 job but dreams of becoming a stand up comedian in the ever-charismatic Bailey Newsome’sexciting newstand up/theatre hybrid piece‘The Class Clown’.
A Scotsman, an Englishman, and a Frenchman all walk into a wellbeing meeting for the one job they all share - chopping off queens' heads. Whilst they wait, they exchange anecdotes of jobs done, fight over stolen opportunities, and pray that they won't need to retrain. It's only when one of them questions the implications of what they do for a living that they start to wonder...will this meeting ever start? Stunning director and theatre-maker Lauren Mitchell brings us an excerpt of her new play ‘The Executioners’.
Not one to shy away from the surreal, the political, the necessary - the mighty Meghan Tyler brings us a brand new play - ‘Up The RA at Christmas’.
