This specific event in Glasgow will focus on sustainability in the form of climate action, working for a purpose or working with purpose. This is also often described as as "tech for good" or "designing for good".
By exploring the intersection of the two disciplines, we hope to appeal to a wider audience and highlight the impact and importance that UX (User Experience) plays not only in the digital design of products, but also the physical impacts this has on our local communities and planet.
Often these communities, sustainability and technology, are silo’d and rarely interact, resulting in experiences that are both bad for users, and for the environment. One example of this is digital overconsumption, such as mobile phones being designed in such a way that means they are not easy to repair or upgrade, leading to frustration of the user at having to buy a new device, while contributing to a single-use economy, rather than a circular one. Similar impacts are being seen across the industry with topics such as AI which will also be tackled.
By bringing together a broad church of professionals, we aim to stimulate conversations on these topics and provide practical actions and tools to professionals in the industry. It is a key aim to bring together sectors from across Scotland and build on the legacy of Glasgow as COP26 host to demonstrate the sustainability heritage of the city.
Speakers have been selected based on their experience of working for a purpose and/or working to fight the climate crisis. e.g. Small99 founder Adam Bastock's company small99 provides support to SMEs to take sustainability actions to reduce their carbon footprint and help with the UK and global targets set for netzero. Small99's People, Planet, Pint is perhaps the UK's fastest growing climate action movements.
To make this a unique and fun experience for everyone fucx will also include music, art, comedy, theatre & puppetry.
As well as workshops on:
- Carbon reduction in your team/organisation
- Steps to find your first job in UX and/or sustainability
- Telling stories to your team/stakeholders using puppetry
Using sustainable/recyclable materials we will create a number of "INSTAGRAM-ABLE" areas for participants to share their attendance and what they have learned from the event.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
