Forest Families sessions are family events and most suited to children of 1-7 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult but only buy a ticket for the wee ones.
Sunday 12th October - Musical Art
Create a tuneful family masterpiece using the beauty of nature! Use your creative streak to make wonderful artistic and musical creations, using natural resources found in our wonderful woodlands.
Sunday 19th October - Nature's Palette
Create a family masterpiece using the beauty of nature! Create fabulous bespoke art using nothing but what you find in our amazing woods.
Sunday 25th October - Bows and Arrows
Your survival depends on making a bow and arrows. Can you hit the target? Come with the family and make a bow and arrows from wood found in our wild places. Then try a bit of target practice and see how good you are, before taking it home with you.
Sunday 2nd November - From Tiny Acorns Mighty Oaks Grow!
Some of our wild places need a bit of extra help to ensure Mugdock has plenty of oak trees well into the future. Help the ranger gather acorns, the seed of the oak, and plant them in places where they are much needed. Thus creating tomorrow's oak woodlands.
Sunday 16th November - Woodcraft Wonders - Spinning Tops!
Under instruction from the ranger and using small tools, use pieces of wood found in our woods to make and decorate a small spinning top to take away with you.
Sunday 23rd November - What To Do With Leaves
Use craft materials alongside the many types of leaves found at this time of year at Mugdock, to create your own bespoke creations.
Sunday 30th November - Stories with the Trees
Our wonderful woods couldn't be more atmospheric places to listen to and participate in an array of nature inspired stories. Come along and free your imagination on this wild adventure.
Sunday 7th December - Christmas Whittle
Using both wood from our wild places and some craft materials, make a Christmas themed character for you to take home. Perhaps you could hang it on your Christmas tree. Full instruction given by the ranger.
Sunday 14th December - A Crafty Christmas
This might get messy. Using craft materials, be creative and make colourful and unusual nature themed Christmas craft for you to take home.
Sunday 28th December - Sensational Shelters
Imagine yourself lost in the wilderness. Build a sturdy shelter to protect against the elements, using what you find round about in the woods.
