Located on Scotland’s most accessible island, Bute Yard is a food and drink hub and home to a monthly producer market on the first Sunday of April - December, showcasing the best local, artisan and craft fare on the Isle of Bute. Each market is dog friendly, with at least 15 market vendors as well as the permanent residents and regularly hosts pop-ups from chefs and restaurants.
Permanent residents at Bute Yard include Isle of Bute Smokehouse, which dates back to 1888 and has a range of award-winning smoked salmon, trout and kippers and Isle of Bute Distillery with its full range of award-winning gin and rum available to take away or enjoy in the Bute Yard garden which has outdoor seating.
A destination for day-trippers and locals alike, the monthly market is perfect for families, couples and friends to visit to meet Bute business owners and market vendors from across Scotland. After enjoying tasty street food and shopping crafts, food and drink from artisan makers, visitors are encouraged to explore the rest of the island with the likes of Bute Forest and Mount Stuart and Gardens easily accessed by walking and public transport.
Bute Yard was the vision of the late Johnny Bute, who dedicated his life to promoting the island as a place for production, tourism and community.
Known for its mild climate, the Isle of Bute was a popular holiday destination throughout the Victorian period to the present day, with dramatic hills, stunning sandy beaches and a thriving community of small businesses in Rothesay. The island can be reached by a short 40-minute ferry journey from Wemyss Bay, operated by CalMac, which connects with regular linked trains to Glasgow Central Station operated by ScotRail. Located in the heart of Rothesay, Bute Yard is accessible within a few minutes walking distance of the ferry terminal.
