Starting in June 2025 the Friends of Ramshorn Graveyard will be starting free tours of the graveyard - a green oasis in the City Centre.
Opened in 1719 the Ramshorn Graveyard was the burial place of choice for the good and the great of the City including the Buchanans, the Glassfords and many other Tobacco Lords and Merchants whose mercantile activities helped Glasgow to eventually become the second City of the Empire.
Predating the Necropolis by over 100 years the graveyard has witnessed the growth of Glasgow and along with merchants and craftsmen includes Lord Provosts, ministers and other notables including David Dale and John Anderson the founder of Strathclyde University.
The tour will also cover the darker side of the graveyard including the grave robbing that was rife in the 19th Century and the measures taken to prevent it happening.
If you want to discover more about the Graveyard and the famous individuals buried there you can book a tour by emailing
