Shaped by the raw beauty of Shetland, where land, sea, and sky meet in constant motion, and drawing its breath from the edge of the Nordic sphere, Nordic Resonance invites deep listening and intuitive response, unfolding through free improvisation and layered interplay where instruments, found sounds, and live processing blur the lines between the human and the elemental.
Shetland's diverse soundscapes, wind-carved coastlines, shifting weather, birdsong, and silence provide both source material and inspiration, resonating through acoustic and electronic textures.
Nordic Resonance is not only a musical performance, but a conversation: between environment and artist, between sound and sensation, between what is heard and what lies just beneath. Each performance is immersive and attuned to the moment - a quiet invocation of place through sound, presence, and listening.
Renzo Spiteri is an Emmy-nominated versatile multi-percussionist, sound artist, composer, sound recordist and interdisciplinary arts collaborator with over three decades of international experience. Originally from the Mediterranean island of Malta and now based in Shetland (Scotland), Renzo is known for his innovative approach to music and sound design, blending traditional, experimental, and contemporary techniques and incorporating environmental elements from the natural world into his compositions.
Renzo's dynamic performances combine diverse instruments, field recordings, and everyday objects, spanning genres from spoken word, world music and jazz, to classical and experimental performances. He collaborates widely across disciplines, working with musicians, storytellers, dancers, visual artists, and filmmakers, including National Geographic's award winning and BAFTA nominated film, Billy and Molly: An Otter Love Story.
