William Morris (1834-1896) was an advocate for ‘common honesty’. His design principles included simplicity, craftsmanship, and longevity, believing that a better future is possible through a radical transformation of the way we live, work, and create.
His Kelmscott Press revived the art of printing. In its emphasis on handcrafted production using durable materials – as well as borders and illustrations inspired by nature – it is an example of sustainability and thoughtful consumption.
Highlighting our complete set of the Kelmscott Press, together with items from our manuscript holdings and newspaper archive, join us for an exploration of William Morris-related collections held by the Mitchell Library.
