Symbiosis is back after the summer break and we're taking things in a slightly different direction for our September edition, dialing down the tempo range to explore the world of bass, breaks, rave and jungle, with our guest and residents all switching things up with themed sets!
// Anikonik [Nook / Rinse FM] //
Anikonik's presence in the Scottish bass music scene has been undeniable and unescapable for the past decade; as a founding member of Junglism and a regular guest at nights across Scotland including Junglism, Bass Injection and many more, Anikonik has carved a reputation as a versatile selector with a bag full of razor sharp cuts.
In recent years her love for the lower tempo end of the bass spectrum has led her to found Nook, a new collective aiming to bring 140 bass, dubstep, halftime and jungle to the capital. Anyone who's been to their nights over the last couple of years will know they know how to shake the bass bins, and indeed the walls of The Mash House!
We've asked her to bring the Nook spirit for our Slowdown Session with a 90 minute set covering all things 140-160 - expect some serious low-end pressure from one of the best names in the local scene.
// Calaco Jack [Jungle Set] //
Symbiosis founder and one of the longest serving DJs in the Scottish D&B scene Calaco Jack steps up for the final set of the night and he's brining a selection of 160 jungle! Expect everything from 90s classics to brand new modern jungle stompers, keeping things bubbling away with those delicious chopped breaks until the close of the evening.
// Alcane [48K Old Skool Rave Set] //
As a founding member of Glasgow's (now sadly dormant) 48K collective, Alcane built a solid rep for bringing only the finest selections of 90s rave and breakbeat hardcore. He'll be digging into those crates and bringing the 48K flavour as he warms things up for Anikonik - we're looking forward to hearing hoovers, stabs, chunky breaks and all things rave.
// Hex [Dubstep Classics Set] //
During his early years in Glasgow, Hex was immersed in the embryonic days of the Dubstep scene, when promoters like Fortified, Numbers, Ballers Social Club and Mungo's Hifi brought scene originators like Skream, Kode9, Vex'd and Loefah to Glasgow for regular club sessions. Walking up Renfrew Street towards The Art School and hearing the window shutters rattling from the sound system vibrations became a much loved ritual at the start of a night, and Hex harbours many fond memories of those early years of the 140 scene. Hex will be taking a trip down memory lane for the first set of the night, bringing us a selection of classic dubstep from the birth of the genre in the mid-late 2000s. Steppers and wobblers at the ready!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
