Join us ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day for the Scottish 'sneak peak' screening of a compelling new documentary that follows Cuban scientist Teresita Rodriguez, who, inspired by her mother’s long battle with the disease, commits to developing medication to further the global fight against Alzheimer’s. The drug, NeuroEPO, is currently in clinical trials and showing very promising results: with very few side effects, it delays disease progression for more than 80% of cases, even improving cognitive abilities in between 50-60% of patients in different test groups. Neuro-EPO is administered via nasal drops, making it easier on the patient and caregiver.
Produced by award-winning media outlet Belly of the Beast Cuba, the documentary shows that NeuroEPO has the potential to improve the health and wellbeing of the over 50 million people living with Alzheimer’s around the world.
The film screening will be followed by a conversation, via live video link, with Cuban medical scientist Roberto Rodriguez, Deputy Director of Cuba’s Neuroscience Centre, and Daniel Montero, from the Belly of the Beast production team. Among other issues, they will discuss the unique characteristics of Cuba’s state-founded, publicly owned biotech sector, and how the US blockade of Cuba obstructs the sector’s development and global access to the island’s innovative drugs.
The event is co-organised by the University of Glasgow's College of Social Sciences and the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences and sponsored by the Havana Glasgow Film Festival (hgfilmfest.com), which celebrates its tenth annual film festival in November.
Drinks and snacks will be available following the screening.
