Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a Scottish architect, designer, water colourist and artist, with famous buildings and design motifs throughout Glasgow. Come along for an evening showcasing Mackintosh in film!
Joseph Sharples, Curator of Mackintosh Collections and Applied Art at the Hunterian, and Ann Cameron, Curator at the National Library of Scotland, will offer a short introduction to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the films.
This event coincides with Glasgow’s 850th anniversary celebration year and the National Library of Scotland’s Centenary. It offers an opportunity to take stock of the city’s past, present and future.
About the films:
Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1965), was made for the Scottish Educational Film Association, and is the first film made about Mackintosh.
Mackintosh Redux (2019) is a restored version of the original 1968 film Mackintosh, directed by Murray Grigor.
About the speakers:
Ann Cameron is a Curator at the National Library of Scotland. Ann documents unique collections of film, video and born digital material recording Scottish history and culture over the last 125 years. Ann has worked on some amazing projects along the way including projects for the Heritage Lottery, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the British Film Institute, Europeana, MG Alba, Scottish Ballet, and last but not least, the National Library’s digital facilities at the Kelvin Hall.
Joseph Sharples is an architectural historian and has been Curator of Mackintosh Collections at the Hunterian since 2018. Part of the University of Glasgow, the Hunterian holds the largest collection anywhere of works by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, including furniture, drawings, architectural designs, and watercolours. Between 2010 and 2013, Joseph worked on a Hunterian research project which created the open-access website www.mackintosh-architecture.gla.ac.uk.
