About Aye Write: Barrowland: The Inside Story of Glasgow’s Beloved Ballroom and One Love, One Life: Alison Irvine and Billy Sloan
Alison Irvine is the author of Barrowland: The Inside Story of Glasgow’s Beloved Ballroom, an in-depth look at one of the city’s most iconic venues. The Barrlowland Ballroom has been at the heart of live music in Glasgow for decades. Since its opening in 1934, it has witnessed nearly a century of music history performed and celebrated across various genres.
It’s also one of several venues where Billy Sloan feels at home. When the legendary music journalist was just fifteen years old, he saw The Who play an incendiary live show at Green’s Playhouse in Glasgow. Just a few years later, he was backstage interviewing David Bowie at the height of Ziggy Mania. It has been a career marked by extraordinary moments, captured beautifully in One Love, One Life: Stories from the Stars.
