Hear Catherine’s experience of raising an autistic child (Nina), not as the person the world tells them to be, but as who they are — a story told so movingly in Catherine’s latest work, Hold Fast: Motherhood, my autistic daughter and me.
From the start, Catherine realised the world wasn’t quite Nina-shaped. Following an autism diagnosis at age 10, both Catherine and Nina had to contend with school bullies, dismissive doctors, and insensitive peers. While Nina remained resolutely herself, Catherine adapted. Mothering an autistic child lit a fierce determination within her and underlined the power of her unconditional love.
Empowering, honest, candid, demystifying and relatable, this will especially appeal to families with neurodiverse members.
