As part of Glasgow’s 850th anniversary celebrations, BDP invites you to explore one of the city centre’s most ambitious educational redevelopments through an exclusive guided tour.
Completed in 2021, the Learning & Teaching Building brings together two existing buildings, the Colville Building and the B-listed Architecture Building, through an innovative retrofit and new-build extension that forms a dynamic hub overlooking Rottenrow Gardens. This central, non-departmental facility houses a variety of learning and teaching spaces, from small breakout areas to a 400-seat lecture theatre, alongside the university’s Student Support Services and Student Union. Together, these create a one-stop destination that fosters collaboration, wellbeing, and community for both staff and students alike.
The tour will be led by Christoph Ackermann, BDP Architect Principal and Project Director, who will share the story behind the redevelopment. From the strategic decision to prioritise retrofit over new-build to the bold architectural interventions that redefined the interior spaces, Christoph will provide behind-the-scenes insight into the project’s design journey and its impact on the university’s urban presence.
What to Expect
