Shamo’s lyrical and deeply emotional works were long overshadowed by censorship and politics in the Soviet Union – now his voice is finally returning to the stage.
This event is part of the new concert series Echoes of Silence, which shines a light on the forgotten and suppressed voices of 20th-century Ukrainian classical music.
Programme highlights include:
• Symphony for Strings
• Flute Concerto
• Aria from the Accordion Concerto
• Songs arranged for string orchestra and voice
The works will be performed by the Culture Code Orchestra, joined by outstanding guest soloists:
• Sofia Ros – accordion (BBC Young Musician 2025)
• Valeria Nezhurbida – flute
• Mariia Sysa – voice
The evening is also a charity concert in support of Dnipro Kids, raising funds for children affected by the war in Ukraine.
About the Culture Code Orchestra
Founded by students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Culture Code Orchestra is dedicated to sharing Ukrainian music and cultural heritage with Scottish audiences. In the past year, the ensemble has performed at Usher Hall, Glasgow Film Festival 2025, Refugee Festival Scotland 2025, and numerous charity events.
Join us for this rare opportunity to discover Shamo’s extraordinary music while supporting a meaningful cause.
