To celebrate the launch of The Wax Fruit Trilogy of books, this one-night-only event on Sunday 21 September at the award-winning Barras Art and Design in the east end of Glasgow, celebrates the republication of The Wax Fruit Trilogy, following growing public and media interest for the in-development TV series adaptation of Guy McCrone’s classic novels. Stars from Outlander, Shetland, Dept Q, Two Doors Down, Vera, and more will be on stage with Elaine C. Smith as MC.
Executive Producer Sarah Purser is leading the commissioning of the TV series with a cast featuring Martin Compston, Molly Windsor, Ashley Jensen, Kenny Doughty, Bill Paterson, Shirley Henderson and many more.
This one-night-only musical extravaganza is a celebration of all things Victorian Glasgow and Wax Fruit. Featuring “The Wax Fruit House Band” led up by master musician Gary Innes of ‘Hoolie in the Hydro and Carnegie Hall’ fame, the show incorporates an all-star cast, including doyenne of the stage and screen Elaine C. Smith, BAFTA award-winning actress and singer Kathleen McDermott, Forbes 30 under 30 breakthrough star 15 year-old Frankie Corio, Shetland star Ashley Jensen, renowned songstress Jerry Burns, Outlander actress Rosie Graham, Dept Q actress Charlene Boyd and more.
Sarah Purser, Executive Producer and organiser said, “Music Hall features heavily in the world of Wax Fruit and Victorian Glasgow, so we thought, what better way to celebrate the republication of the novels than with a grand, bawdy, sentimental, fun, proper old-fashioned evening of Victorian Variety starring some of the country’s finest musicians and our fabulous cast. A riot of dancing, singing, drinking, and top class acts including the peerless Jamie MacDougall as Sir Harry Lauder - Scotland’s first global superstar - all accompanied by the fabulous Wax Fruit House Band who will keep the party in full swing all night.”
In 2024, Glasgow was turned into a film set for 140 shows and movies bringing in £33m of spent cash in the city and Purser added: “This is part of the ongoing campaign to bring Wax Fruit, the TV series to life in the city, where the stunning buildings of Alexander “Greek” Thomson and many other historic locations will feature.”
The dress code is “Vivienne Westwood meets The Glasgow Boys”—a modern take on Victoriana, so think bold, busty, tartan, feather boas, sharp suits, etc…”
Doors open at 6pm for 6.30pm kick off, and the evening wraps up around 10pm. Tickets are £25 and include a copy of Antimacassar City, the first book in the Wax Fruit trilogy.
