In June 1889, while Vincent Van Gogh was experiencing a period of poor mental health, one conscious act of creation provided him with a level of comfort that would support him through a stint in a French asylum. As he looked out of his east facing window at dawn he began to paint A Starry Night, which would go on to become one of the most famous paintings of the modern era.
Van Gogh suffered from a level of mental disturbance throughout much of his adult life, but it is equally clear that he took great comfort in the act of creation.
Creative Steps wants to honour his legacy by creating a collaborative collage of A Starry Night made from colourful paper ribbons where comforts and disturbances can be written out and reflected on during an Open Day.
The ribbons will then become a small part of larger picture where we share our mental health journey as a cathartic exercise while providing advice and support to others.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
