After the huge success of the Apollo Remastered book, and his exhibition and sell-out talk at Glasgow Science Centre in 2022, we are delighted to welcome back Andy Saunders, for the release of its prequel - Gemini and Mercury Remastered.
For the first time in the IMAX at Glasgow Science Centre, Andy will share the untold story of humanity’s first ventures into space and the extraordinary images that captured them. He will also outline the cutting-edge enhancement techniques he used on scans of the original film to create the highest quality images ever produced from these missions.
This stunning visual odyssey brings to life the pivotal, intimate moments from the very dawn of human space exploration, during projects Mercury and Gemini. These early astronauts took the first, and still some of the finest photographs of Earth ever captured on film.
For over half a century, almost every image publicly available was produced from a lower-quality copy of these originals. Until now…
Coinciding with the 60th anniversaries of NASA’s Gemini missions, the book is a striking tribute to the visionaries who dared to dream beyond our world, a timely reminder of the stunning beauty of our home planet, and a testament to the enduring power of exploration.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn about the human stories behind the missions, and discover how these early spaceflights shaped the triumphs that followed during the Apollo programme.
Andy has also curated a further slideshow, especially for this event, that will be presented on the biggest screen in Scotland, showing ‘the real Apollo 13’ mission as never seen before. Featuring images from Apollo Remastered, this will immediately follow the special IMAX showing of the Apollo 13 movie.
Apollo 13: 30th Anniversary – IMAX 2D – Rated PG
From Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and IMAX Corporation comes the very first Hollywood feature film to be digitally re-mastered into The IMAX Experience® using the revolutionary IMAX DMR® technology.
Apollo 13 tells the dramatic true story of the heroic actions needed to bring a three-astronaut crew safely back to Earth after the Apollo 13 space mission suffered catastrophic mechanical problems en route to the Moon. Made with NASA's collaboration, the highly-suspenseful film is scientifically and historically accurate.
Apollo 13 features strong performances from the ensemble cast, led by Oscar®-winning actor Tom Hanks, and brilliant direction by Ron Howard, another Oscar winner.
