Over the last two years, ШЩЦ (SHSHCHTS) has been an active part of London’s experimental music scene, with monthly showcases in churches and FOMO events in unexpected locations such as the Tate, Barbican, British Museum, and even train stations.
Starting over a decade ago as an underground techno party in Kyiv, ШЩЦ has since expanded its genres and experimented extensively with sound, performing at events like Unsound Festival, Boiler Room, and in cities including London, Berlin, and Warsaw. ШЩЦ has become a key figure in the Ukrainian scene — a tireless experimenter and provocateur, earning both love and hate from listeners. Still, staying true to itself, the collective continues to push the boundaries of electronic music.
In 2024, the British Library recorded several of their live performances, now archived in their music department. Despite keeping things lowkey and independent, with little money involved, ШЩЦ has built its own community and distinct style — centered on music, mostly techno, but infused with wild experiments and shapeshifting across genres. Think AFX, AE, BOC, Gen Z, and millennial nostalgia, all blending into a vision of Ukrainian abstract futurism.
It’s hard to call ШЩЦ a record label — it's more of a music project involving various musicians, mostly friends of friends who share the values represented by these three letters. Bohdan Konakov, the figure behind it, keeps the project shrouded in mystery. In his rare interviews, he emphasizes that it’s not just about him — it's about music and the people who come to join the dancefloor.
