Glasgow Requiem: The Well

To mark Glasgow's 850th anniversary, Aproxima Arts invite audiences into the heart of Glasgow Cathedral for a series of special concerts, to celebrate the rededication of St Mungo's Well in the crypt.

About Glasgow Requiem: The Well

Featuring new music by Karine Polwart, Claire M Singer, who also performs, and new choral works by Cameron Sinclair. Performers include Siobhan Miller, the Glasgow Madrigirls, the Maryhill Integration Network Joyous Choir, and piper Harry Gorski-Brown.

The music is interspersed with narration by actor Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot, Vigil), bringing to life the forgotten story of the well.

Once central to the city’s founding story, the ancient well will be transformed this November by the installation of a shimmering circular mosaic echoing the colours of the cathedral's stained-glass windows. Created by Aproxima with acclaimed artist Joanna Kessel, it is the first mosaic of its kind installed within a historic well.

Concertgoers have an exclusive opportunity to book a free, timed 10-minute slot to visit the newly rededicated well and see the mosaic in the Cathedral Crypt, either before or after the concert.
