Alexander "Greek" Thomson was a Scottish architect and architectural theorist, and pioneer in sustainable building practices. Less well known globally than his peer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Alexander's legacy is rooted in Glasgow and is still admired today.
We are delighted to be hosting an exhibition by The Alexander Thomson Society marking the 150th anniversary of the death of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson in the Sauchiehall Street Culture and Heritage District Project Space.
Alexander and his partners designed more than 150 buildings across Glasgow and the west of Scotland, including Holmwood House, Great Western Terrace, Moray Place, St Vincent Street Church, Grecian Chambers (now the CCA building in Sauchiehall Street) as well as warehouses, offices, hotels, terraces and tenements. Many may have been lost over time, but much remains.
The exhibition is accompanied by an introductory talk on 'Greek' Thomson on Thursday 15 January at 6.00pm - book your free place here.
This exhibition was created in partnership with Glasgow Life, The Mitchell Library, and with support from Minuteman Press.
Additional Dates: 14 January 2026, 15 January 2026, 20 January 2026, 21 January 2026, 22 January 2026
