Michael McMullen is an artist working in Project Ability’s Aspire workshops.

His first solo exhibition unfolds as a vivid study of the human figure pushed to its expressive limits, each work capturing an emotional charge that feels both raw and intentional.

In these portraits, distorted faces, exaggerated features, and fractured forms are created through bold blocks of colour layered with expressive markmaking. McMullen’s palette, ranging from searing oranges and electric greens to deep indigos and unexpected flashes of pink, creates a fascinating visual language unique to the artist. Textured marks and loosely structured compositions reveal an artist embracing imperfection, using it as a point of entry to share his perspective.

Together, these works form a richly imaginative world where identity is fluid, feelings are colourful, and every figure tells a story.

Please join us in the gallery on January 24th, from 1-3pm, for the artist reception. All welcome.
