The Many Faces of Glasgow challenge has been organised by Largs-based photographer Duncan Holmes. Duncan is aiming to take 2000 portrait photos in St. Enoch Centre between 8am-8pm on Thursday August 14.
Sitters, who must register in advance, are being supplied with sponsor forms and businesses are also being invited to sponsor the event. All funds raised will be donated to Sense Scotland.
Sense Scotland supports children, young people and adults who have communication support needs to live active and independent lives
Duncan said: “The Many Faces of Glasgow challenge is a chance for people to take part in a truly unique photography experiment and at the same time raise funds for a great cause.
“We want people from all sections of the community to come along and get involved. Some of our sitters have said they’re going to wear fancy dress, while others are workers who plan to nip along during their break.”
Andy Kerr, chief executive of Sense Scotland, said: “I’d encourage as many people as possible to take part in The Many Faces of Glasgow project. Not only is it a great way to raise funds, it will also be a fascinating snapshot of Glasgow’s city centre and the people who populate it.”
The project is part of St. Enoch Centre’s Artfest, a six-week festival dedicated to visual art. It began last month with the launch of the shopping destination’s annual art and design exhibition It’s My Greener Glasgow.
The exhibition, in a specially constructed gallery, features environmentally-inspired works by more than 100 Glasgow school pupils.
Shoppers will also be treated to two additional exhibitions. The Unexpected Artist will showcase the work of BA Hons Digital Art students at the University of West of Scotland while Glasgow Museums will showcase a variety of models and objects within the Centre on July 23.
Following performances at Westminster Abbey in front of the royal family and The Queen’s Baton Relay events, classical dance group Visual Statement will be returning to St. Enoch Centre on August 2 to perform The March of the Hermit Crabs in the Rain.
Children will be invited to get creative at the centre’s Summer Sensory workshops. Run by St. Enoch Centre’s 2014 charity partner Sense Scotland, the sessions will offer activities including candle-making and edible garden planting. The sessions aim to highlight the range of sensory work that Sense Scotland undertakes with the families it supports.
Families can also visit the charity’s You’ve Been Framed stand to be photographed in a variety of frames in return for a donation. The stand will be open 10am-4pm on Thursday July 3.
Anne Ledgerwood, general manager of St. Enoch Centre, said: “Artfest offers a fun, accessible way to enjoy art and support Glasgow’s artistic community. We want shoppers to have a great time exploring our exhibitions and trying their hand at arts and crafts.
“This summer is set to be one of the most exciting Glasgow has ever seen and we’re keen to ensure visitors to St. Enoch Centre enjoy the city’s vibrant atmosphere.”
