All My Sons is a devastating look at family, war and grief, performed by a top cast including Trudie Goodwin (The Bill, Emmerdale), Robbie Jack (Gary: Tank Commander, Black Watch) and Paul Shelley (National Theatre, RSC and Shakespeare’s Globe).
Set just after the Second World War in the backyard of Joe and Kate Keller, this gripping and passionate drama ranks as one of the classics of our time. Joe and Kate try to keep alive the memory of their son Larry, who disappeared in the war, by the planting of a tree in his honour, but Larry’s disappearance is not the only part of the family’s past that they can’t put behind them.
Following a stormy night when Larry’s tree is blown down, Joe and Kate’s lives are threatened by a series of events that could destroy the very foundations of their lives. With all the tension of a taut thriller, All My Sons is a powerful drama that crackles with emotion and excitement.
All My Sons visits Theatre Royal Glasgow (1-5 September), Eden Court, Inverness (7-9 September), Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy (10-12 September), Macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling (17-18 September) and King’s Theatre, Edinburgh (21-26 September).
From the 1 October Rapture Theatre’s celebration of Arthur Miller’s centenary continues with one of Miller’s final great plays: The Last Yankee.
Rapture Theatre’s Arthur Miller season marks its first project as a Creative Scotland Regularly Funded Organisation, and Artistic Director Michael Emans is delighted:
"I am thrilled to be directing two powerful pieces by Arthur Miller for Rapture's first project as a Creative Scotland Regularly Funded Company. The support from Creative Scotland has allowed Rapture to dream big, and it has always been a big dream of ours to bring a masterwork such as All My Sons to the big, main Scottish stages.
"The loss of childhood and of idealism are two powerful themes that attracted me to All My Sons - I want to explore these themes with our production.
"Being able to tour a challenging piece such as Miller's The Last Yankee to studio venues, with a tour that traverses Inverness to Selkirk, reflects Rapture's commitment to bring quality theatre to smaller venues.
"I am proud that The Last Yankee will be part of the 2015 Mental Health Arts and Film Festival.
“All My Sons and The Last Yankee are very different, which you would expect, written almost 50 years apart; however they both exhibit Miller's unique talents as a writer. They are sensitive yet passionate; political yet personal.
“The Miller centenary provides a lovely synergy to our ambition, and I can't wait to start work with our wonderful ensemble cast.”
