Young Scottish artists are being urged to apply now to perform at Exchange 2016, which returns to Platform, Glasgow this March - giving young people the opportunity to perform and gain a unique insight into how to get ahead in music.
Music for Youth, in association with Platform, present the two day event from 4 - 5 March 2016 which will explore the range of opportunities available to aspiring young musicians within Scotland and further afield.
Musicians aged 21 and under will have the chance to perform their chosen genre of music live on stage and receive feedback from music professionals such as composer and producer Jim Sutherland and singer-songwriter Carol Laula.
Exchange will also include music industry panels with professionals sharing their top tips with young people. CRAIG ARMSTRONG Scotland’s highly respected and in-demand composer and performer in the film and music industry is confirmed as this year’s keynote speaker.
Craig Armstrong – composer of celebrated film scores, including The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge! said: “I’m delighted to be asked to contribute to this year’s Exchange event, it promises to be a really informative and exciting time.
It’s a privilege to share my experience with young people and it’s great this event creates the space for listening to and seeing our next generation of musicians perform.”
There will also be support for teachers and those working with young people to inform them of the career options and pathways for young people and how they can help them develop the key skills essential for a career in the music industry.
The innovative parents panel returns providing a chance for parents to hear from fellow parents who have children interested in exploring a career in the music business.
Last year’s event saw over 350 young people, parents, teachers and youth workers from across Scotland flock to Platform for this unique two-day event, participants heard from the like of Keith Harris, Stevie Wonder’s manager and Director of Performer Affairs at PPL. They also had the chance to listen to some of the best of Scotland’s aspiring musicians with 33 acts performing from as far afield as Orkney to South Lanarkshire.
Individuals and groups wishing to perform or attend Exchange should apply now at www.mfy.org.uk/exchange. PERFORMERS DEADLINE: 8 FEBRUARY 2016.
Commenting on Exchange, Judith Webster, Chief Executive, Music for Youth said: “Whether you are a young person, work with young people or the parent of an aspiring musician – this is a fantastic opportunity to hear from leading professionals on how to progress.
“We would urge musicians from all genres to come along to what promises to be one of the most exciting and talked about youth music events taking place in Scotland this year.”
Vic Galloway returns to host this year’s event: “Exchange is an amazing opportunity for young people to be seen and heard by experts in the field and get the answers to the burning questions every aspiring musician has about how to break into the industry.
“Last year’s event saw some amazing acts gather from across Scotland and this year’s event promises to be even better - with more industry panels, events and acts taking part”.
