The homebuilder launched the competition to celebrate national Share-a-Story month and called on primary schools and nurseries across central Scotland to share their best-loved stories.
Festival Park Day Nursery was one of four winning entries, selected from over 40, to benefit from the £1,000 bursary set up by the housebuilder to celebrate and encourage reading, with the nursery being awarded £250 to spend on new books.
The winning entry was ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell as the story they would most like to share with the children mentioning they enjoy pretending to be the animals in the zoo whenever it is read aloud in the nursery.
Commenting, Rishika, 4, said: “We chose Dear Zoo as our favourite book because it has all our favourite animals in it and a nice surprise at the end of the story.”
Amanda Kelly Head of Centre at Festival Park Day Nursery, said: “We are so pleased with the donation from Stewart Milne Homes and can’t wait to expand our book collection. Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell is a timeless story that engages children from all backgrounds. The children love to 'lift the flap' and reveal each animal with squeals of delight.. this encourages discussion in a natural and fun way and gives the children the opportunity to learn more about the different characteristics of each animal.”
Kevin Moreland at Stewart Milne Homes, added: “The children at Festival Park Day Nursery have chosen a really lovely book and it is fantastic to see so many children getting involved and engaging in story-telling from such an early age. We hope the children get hours of enjoyment from the books purchased and discover new stories to treasure and indeed share.”
Stewart Milne Homes will be asking the public to help select their favourite story from a shortlist of the most popular entries. This will be held on the homebuilder’s Facebook page.
