This Saturday (September 14) shoppers at Glasgow’s Buchanan Galleries will be able to climb on board a dodgem with a difference and have the chance to win some fantastic prizes.
Shoppers will get strapped in between 12 and 3pm in the Galleries’ atrium before radio presenter Paul Harper puts them on the spot with some quick-fire questions.
There are some amazing Carnival prizes up for grabs, including five IRN-BRU Phenomenal tickets which gives families unlimited access to the Carnival, which runs from December 20 2019 until January 12 2020. Other prizes include standard entry tickets – and plenty of IRN BRU.
A festive institution in Glasgow, the Carnival first took place in 1919 at the Kelvin Hall, with classic stalls such as hook-a-duck, the dodgems and the coconut shy, and through the years it was also home to a circus – with many people remembering the smell of the elephants. It soon became one of the city’s biggest festive events. The show rolled on to the SEC Glasgow in 1986, where it has been drawing in the crowds ever since.
With over 65 rides and attractions to choose from, there’s something for people of all ages to enjoy in its centenary year.
You can test your bravery on the Techno Power, and outside the venue you’ll find a 40m high Star Flyer. Both are new additions to the carnival for 2019 and are guaranteed to excite even the biggest daredevils. And you’ll be able to enjoy the traditional family favourites, from the sticky wall to the dodgems and many more.
Greg Cherry, Managing Director of QD Events, organisers of the event, said: “The people of Glasgow are what makes the Carnival special and have made it such a big part of the city’s festive celebrations for the past 100 years.
“The IRN-BRU Carnival has become an iconic part of Scotland’s festive season. Generations of families come year on year, and we’ve continued to grow and improve, adding new and thrilling experiences.
“We have a lot planned for our centenary celebrations, this is going to be a very special year and our biggest Carnival to date. It’s one you won’t want to miss, and people can win their tickets and other great prizes if they are brave enough to join Paul in our dodgem at Buchanan Galleries this Saturday. There could be a few surprises in store!”
The IRN-BRU Carnival returns on Friday 20 December 2019 and will be open until Sunday 12th January 2020* in the SEC, Glasgow. Super early bird tickets are available for just £10 until the 30th September and early bird tickets will be available for £12 until 13th October. Standard entry price tickets are available from £13 with kids under three going for free. Tickets are available online now at www.irn-bru-carnival.com.
*Closed on Christmas Day.
