Vintage elegance collides with a 1960s air of anti-establishment in a richly eclectic collection, showcased in a sensorial space replete with heritage, innovation, and creativity.
The new 120m2 (1300 sq ft) gallery is located on the first floor of the prestigious Princes Square shopping centre in the heart of the city. The Grade B listed building dates back to 1841, and following its restoration and transformation into a shopping destination in the 1980s, the site has been awarded several accolades from the Royal Institute of British Architecture. This mix of rich heritage and stylish design makes it the perfect home for Timothy Oulton, who is known for its juxtaposition of tradition and modernity.
The core idea that drives Timothy Oulton is the realisation that we only have one life, so we should elevate every moment to the utmost. Whether a quiet moment alone, relaxing with loved ones, time spent working on a better world, or the unbridled joy of life’s celebrations, Timothy Oulton’s use of beautiful materials, finishes, forms and craftsmanship techniques connect deeply through the senses and through stories of meaning.
Hailing from Manchester, founder Tim Oulton started out in his dad’s antiques shop, before later taking over the business and repositioning it to focus on furniture design. Many of the brand’s most established icons are inspired by the past, but reinvented with modern energy. Signature pieces on show in the new gallery include: the daring Westminster Jack’dN Brok’n sofa, the effortlessly sophisticated Shabby modular sofa, the iconic Aviator Tomcat chair, the timeless Saddle chair, the floor-standing Rex mirror, and the Odeon chandelier.
The gallery team is ready to offer an array of services, whether you’re seeking a personal tour of the collection, searching for a statement piece of furniture or lighting, or wanting to furnish a whole room (or house!) with the expert guidance of Timothy Oulton’s Room Planning service.
On the opening, Tim Oulton says: “We’ve wanted a store in Scotland for a long time, we’re lucky enough to have some fans of the brand here already, and hopefully we’ll be able to bring something a little bit different to Glasgow. The city has the largest shopping district outside of London so it’s a great location, and the new gallery is in a fantastic high-end period building which suits us perfectly.”
Sarah Lulham of Redevco, owners of Princes Square, commented: “We are delighted that Timothy Oulton have chosen Princes Square for their first Scottish store. We love the brand and it’s a real coup for the retail sector in the city.”
Timothy Oulton follows in the footsteps of: Everyman Cinema, Kate Spade, Vivienne Westwood and Ted Baker who each chose to open their first Scottish stores in Princes Square.
Timothy Oulton has over 40 stores across the world in some of the world’s great cities including New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Sydney, New Delhi, Moscow, and a flagship in London at Bluebird. The brand continues its careful expansion with the new Glasgow gallery, and invites you to come and enjoy a glass of champagne and take a look!
