From Great Danes to the pampered lap dog, the popular hotel and resort operator, which operates the four-star Crutherland House Hotel in East Kilbride and the Forest Hills Resort in Aberfoyle, has launched its first ever ‘Top of the Pups’ competition.
To enter, owners simply have to submit a selection of images or videos of their pups which showcase their best model poses. Macdonald Hotels & Resorts will select seven regional winners, including one dog from Glasgow and the west, with the shortlist then taking part in a public vote via social media.
The chosen pooch will become the star of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts marketing campaign for the upcoming year, featuring in all its pet friendly adverts across its website, social media and press activity.
As the official face of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, the canine model will be given the chance to travel to select venues, which are in some of the most picturesque places in the UK, from the sunny Solent Coast to the breath-taking Scottish Highlands. Macdonald Hotels & Resorts has locations in some of the most beautiful parts of the country, giving man’s best friend the chance to roam and explore all the beautiful sights, and smells, of the stunning British countryside.
The campaign follows internal research from Macdonald Hotels which showed more guests were seeking to bring their pets on vacation.
Data released by the Pet Food Manufacturers Association (PFMA) in May 2022 found that as many as 77% of households with children have a pet (6.9 million families), which is an increase of 12% on 2021 figures.
While the group has always provided dog-friendly rooms, it plans to expand its offering with a new specially designed food and drink offering, and dog butler service in the coming months. The new furry face would have a central role in bringing these initiatives to the market.
Peter Llewellyn, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, said: “Dogs are just as much a part of the family as everyone else, so it’s right that they get to enjoy all the wonderful sights, and smells, that Britain has to offer.
“The pandemic saw a huge increase in pet owners across the UK, and we know from our own insights that more people want to bring their pups with them on holiday.
“This is the ultimate battle of the breeds, and we’re looking for a handsome hotel hound, who can capture the magic of visiting a Macdonald Hotel or Resort and send other dog’s tails wagging.”
The campaign launches as people and their pets across the UK welcome the changing season. With a flourish of autumnal walks to experience, man’s best friend can enjoy the season of senses at one of the group’s 30 luxury hotels and five self-catering resorts. Until 23 December, guests will receive a 20% discount on autumn breaks when they book direct.
