The hotly anticipated opening of Popeyes® in central Glasgow brought Sauchiehall Street to a standstill today (5 July) as the New Orleans-inspired chicken restaurant opened the doors to its newest venue in the heart of the city, marking the brand’s 17th opening this year, and the 50th opening since first landing in the UK in November 2021.
Popeyes® UK pulled out all the stops for the big 5-0, teaming up with Glasgow’s favourite brands to offer dedicated fans more rewards than ever before. Alongside Popeyes® signature prize of free Chicken Sandwiches for a year for the first three customers in the queue, the first 50 customers at Sauchiehall Street chanced their luck to receive exclusive money-can’t-buy merch alongside their Chicken Sandwiches, including limited-edition pairs of sneakers branded in Popeyes® iconic orange, teal, and white, created by local artists at BoxFresh Glasgow – or sets of custom Popeyes® press on nails from one of Glasgow’s best-loved nail salons, Naf!
The 23 hours queue smashed the previous Scottish record of 18.5 hours at Popeyes® Barrhead in September last year as dedicated fans waited patiently to get their hands on the exclusive merch and iconic chicken sandwich. Friends, Subhan and Zubair Mohammed were two of the first fans to arrive, queuing overnight to get their hands on the iconic Popeyes® Chicken Sandwich. Zubair Mohammed said: “Subhan sent me the Instagram post with the details of the opening and we really wanted to be the first in the queue. We originally planned to come for 6am but saw how early people queued in Barrhead so decided to head down the day before and we’re so glad we did! The Sandwich was definitely worth the wait!”
Tom Crowley, CEO at Popeyes® UK, said: “Scottish chicken lovers have continued show their support, and they certainly rose to the challenge to celebrate our 50th UK opening with incredible energy, queueing for an unbelievable 23 hours before we opened the doors.”
As the first Popeyes® in the UK to stay open until midnight every day from opening day, the full menu including the iconic Popeyes® Chicken Sandwich and original Southern biscuits and gravy will be available for those late-night cravings. Popeyes® is also serving up its breakfast menu featuring British breakfast classics with a New Orleans twist until 11am each day – even including a Bacon Roll Meal for just £1.99, comprising a Bacon Roll, Hash Brown and a drink.
Popeyes® also offer a 25% student discount via UNiDAYS.
Popeyes® is situated at 108-110 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, and seats up to 80 people for dine-in, with takeaway also available. To find out more about Popeyes® UK Sauchiehall Street, visit popeyesuk.com or follow the brand on Instagram at @PopeyesUK or TikTok at @popeyesuk.
