Scotland’s biggest night of traditional music Hoolie in the Hydro is set to deliver even more excitement this year with the announcement that performers from the prestigious Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will join the star-studded line-up for the 2024 event.
As the Tattoo celebrates its remarkable 75th birthday, they will be adding their unique sound to Hoolie 100, a monumental celebration of 100 years of Scottish music, on Saturday December 7th 2024, at Glasgow's iconic OVO Hydro.
Renowned for their awe-inspiring displays of military precision and unique musical performances, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s involvement brings an additional layer of history and tradition to this year’s event.
In a significant boost for the event, the National Trust for Scotland has also joined forces with An Aird Events to become the official charity partner for Hoolie 100, further highlighting the importance of preserving and promoting Scotland’s cultural heritage. This new partnership reflects a shared commitment to honouring the country’s rich musical history while celebrating the incredible talent that defines Scotland’s modern music scene.
Organised by acclaimed musician and broadcaster Gary Innes, Hoolie 100 promises to be another record-breaking night. Gary, who is a founding member of award-winning band Mànran and an influential figure in the Scottish traditional music scene, has masterminded this spectacular event to bring together some of Scotland’s most iconic acts.
The 2024 line-up features folk pioneers Capercaillie, who are celebrating 40 years in the industry, alongside high-energy chart-topping Skerryvore, who are celebrating 20 years, multi-award-winning Mànran – who have just had their latest single, Standing Still, added to BBC Radio 2 Playlist and are celebrating 15 years in the industry– instrumental powerhouses RURA who are also turning 15, and boundary-pushing trio Talisk who are celebrating 10 years. With each band marking milestone anniversaries in their careers, Hoolie 100 reflects a century of innovation and artistry in Scottish music.
The event will also pay tribute to the late Fergie MacDonald MBE, with a line-up of special guests performing some of his most-loved tunes and songs.
Gary Innes said: “Bringing the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo into this year's line-up is truly special, especially as they celebrate their 75th birthday. Their involvement, along with the support of the National Trust for Scotland, highlights the depth and richness of our cultural heritage, and I can't wait to see how the Royal Military Tattoo’s precision and artistry complements our Hoolie 100 celebrations.”
Alan Lane, Creative Director for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, said: “Our 75th anniversary is such a special occasion for us all here at the Tattoo. And to share the stage with some of the biggest names in Scottish music - all marking their own special occasions - is an opportunity we’re excited to grasp with both hands - what a party it is sure to be! We’re proud to be part of the fabric of the Scottish Arts Community and cannot wait to perform with everyone at Hoolie in the Hydro.”
With over 10,000 attendees expected once again, Hoolie in the Hydro will continue to set new standards for live performances. From traditional folk music to electrifying modern performances, this celebration promises to push the boundaries of what Scottish music can achieve, honouring its past and looking toward an exciting and innovative future. The event will continue breaking boundaries when it heads across the Atlantic to take over New York’s famous Carnegie Hall in April 2025.
Hoolie in the Hydro 2024 will take place on Saturday 7th December and tickets are on sale now at www.sec.co.uk
