Once again, the season’s schedule provides handicap and top amateur golfers with access to inclusive, world-class standard championships at some of Scotland’s leading venues and hidden gems
Highlights of the 2025 season are sure to include:
• Western Gailes staging the Scottish Women’s Amateur for the first time
• North Berwick hosting the Scottish Men’s Open Amateur for the first time since 1985
• Gullane welcoming players to the Scottish Men’s Amateur for the fifth time in its history
• Rowallan Castle hosting the PING Scottish Open for Golfers with a Disability
• The Scottish Open Series criss-crossing the country on the ‘Road to Turnberry’
• Seven courses making their debuts as Scottish Golf championship venues
This year’s schedule also builds on the success of the 2024 season which saw records tumble and fascinating storylines created. Highlights included:
• Record entries for the Scottish Men’s Open Amateur
• Record entries for the Scottish Boys’ Open Amateur
• The successful introduction of the Scottish Open for Golfers with a Disability
• The staging of the inaugural mixed Scottish Under 14 Open
• 3467 entries from competitors representing 33 nations
• Champions emerging from Australia, Norway, Ireland, England, France as well as Scotland
Toni Ffinch, senior events manager at Scottish Golf, said: “As always, we’re hugely indebted to all our host clubs and the small army of volunteers who help us stage events for men, women and juniors.
“It will be hard to top the excitement and drama of 2024, but we’ll give it a good go!
“In Scotland we’re blessed to have great links courses that are the envy of the world.
“The fact that we can host some of our flagship amateur championships in 2025 at courses such as North Berwick, Gullane, Royal Troon, Western Gailes and Montrose is terrific.
“We also pride ourselves in the popularity of our events for regular club handicap golfers. It is hugely important to us that we provide more opportunities for more golfers and showcase the game as a welcoming, accessible sport for all.
“For example, the Scottish Open Series, which invites entries from Scottish club or OpenPlay members with a registered WHS™ Handicap Index®, continues to go from strength to strength.
“This year we’re on the ‘Road to Turnberry’.
“Golfers can play in one or more of the six events being held around the country at some top-class courses with the added incentive of qualifying for a trip to the Finals in Turnberry.
“The Scottish Open for Golfers with a Disability was a highlight of last season with Australia’s Wayne Perske a deserving first winner and we can’t wait to work with our new title sponsor PING on the second edition of this championship.
“We have new clubs on board hosting our events, new champions to crown and the Scottish Golf events team look forward to welcoming back old friends and meeting the next generation of golfers at all our championships.”
