The competition, saw over 700 students participating across 17+ different sporting disciplines including athletics, badminton, hockey and netball in a day of intense competition before coming to a conclusion at Scotstoun Sports Campus.
Points were allocated to the winner of individual sports events in order to decide the victorious university.
Karl Kirkpatrick , Sports President Glasgow University Sports Association, said: “Congratulations to Strathclyde on their win today. The excitement around Glasgow has been electric, and even though we were unable to nab the win, we’ll be back at it again next year! Well done to everyone who took part, and thank you also to the volunteers, supporters, and organisers who have done so much work behind the scenes in the run up to the event. See you next year!”
Oluwatomisin Osinubi, Vice President The Glasgow School for Business and Society, Glasgow Caledonian University said: “Congratulations to Strathclyde on a great win! For me, The Glasgow Taxis Cup is about more than just results; it’s about coming together as a sporting community, pushing ourselves, and showing what university sport is all about. To our GCU athletes—I couldn’t be prouder. You gave your all, not just today but in every training session, every game, and every challenge thrown your way. We may not be taking the trophy home this time, but what we are taking home is that same unstoppable GCU spirit—resilient, vibrant, and full of electrifying energy. So let’s celebrate our efforts, hold our heads high, and come back even stronger next year. Because if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that GCU Wolves are driven, determined, and here to stay. Well done, everyone!”
Anna Edvaldsson, Vice President Sport and Wellbeing, Strathclyde University Sports Union said: “I’m bursting with pride and I want to say a huge congratulations to Strathclyde for winning and to everyone involved in making this event a success! It’s been fantastic to see the return of the Glasgow Taxis Cup for another year, and it’s inspiring to watch more students get involved each year. Lifting the cup for Strathclyde has been one of my proudest moments as Sports President, and I’m already looking forward to us bringing it back home again next year - mon the Tech!”
The event, now in its 20th year, has been supported by Glasgow Taxis Ltd. since 2011.
Dougie McPherson, Chairman of Glasgow Taxis, said: “Congratulations to the winners of today's 2025 Glasgow Taxis Cup, University of Strathclyde. As always there are only winners on a day like this with all involved to be congratulated on their participation and performance, and we trust celebrations can be enjoyed by students from all three universities together this evening.
We'd also like to congratulate the organisers behind the event who undertake a huge amount of work to make everything tick on the day. Everyone at Glasgow Taxis appreciates that level of effort and we're grateful to be given the platform to align with an event full of so many positive messages and moments. Congratulations to all.”
